Whitsun vacation (2): Seaside
Part 2 of the short adventures in Mecklenburg was a visit at the sea. We took the old railway "Molli" from Kühlungsborn to Heiligendamm and walked back at the beach.

Whitsun vacation (1): Safari
Astrid and me have two weeks whitsun vacation. Except a short visit in Mecklenburg we decided to stay at home for most of the time and care about our home and horses.
But even if it was a short visit, we had a lot of adventures on the way. Part 1 was a safari trip which our Volvo luckily survived without any harm, even the monkeys tried everything to take it apart.

Horse & Run
This weekend was full of sportive events. Saturday Astrid had a dressage tournament in Michelstadt and because Ray was ill we put Andor in the trailer and he had to run his first tournament.
What to say, Astrid and Andor did a great job and became second. It couldn´t have been better.
Sunday I went to Frankfurt for the skyrun on top of the Messeturm. 61 storeys, 1344 stairs in 8:29 min. I was satisfied, 52 seconds faster than in 2007. I´m looking forward to more stair running.

My Cousins Wedding
Anike and Christian got married in Ratzeburg, a small scenic town on the border between Mecklenburg and Schleswig-Holstein. He is the first of my uncles six sons to get married, so some more weddings will follow :)
See Astrid and me in front of the Ratzeburg cathedral...
...and my family on the wedding party.

Horses & Horses
Friday was public holiday in Germany. Nontheless it was very early (for my taste) when we drove to the new stables in Straßenheim to load Ray for a dressage tournament in Heidelberg.
No money this time - ;) - but still we were very satisfied with the overall performance.
After the tournament we went directly back to Straßenheim and took the chance to get some new photos of Andor. He is learning and evolving much to our joy.
And he seems to like the new surroundings in the stable with many other Haflinger comrades and lots of fresh hay and straw.
The other 3 girls that have moved with us to the new stables were also riding at the same time so we assembled the parade for a photo.

Odenwald Hike with Christian and Imke
The Odenwald is a small mountain range just 20 km away from Mannheim. We went the Neckar valley upstream passing Heidelberg driving to Neckargerach for a small morning hike with Christian and Imke.
Starting in the small town we followed the river for a while before hiking in the meadows and forest of the Odenwald.
On the way back to the Neckar valley we followed down the Margarethen gorge which offers a lot of cascading waterfalls. It is quite steep and luckily the weather was dry and sunny, otherwise this would have been a slippery path.
The view was astonishing when we finally came out of the gorge and had "our" river back. The village on the photo is Guttenbach.
Unfortunately I missed the photo of all 4 of us on the bench. Mine is far too overexposed. I should finish the photo book before playing around with my Nikon D90.
