A Trip to Rostock

Last Sunday I made a spontaneous trip to Rostock, my city of birth. A city run on a 2.5 km round course was held, directly in the area, where I lived for 10 years, went to school, played and shopped. I arrived around half past nine and registered for the half marathon. The time until start I killed by looking around the town and spending some time with my grandparents, who came to see the start.

My goal was something under 1:30 hours, and I also dreamed about a new pb, my old one being something around 1:28. I started from the front of the pack in my desired speed of around 15 kph, and had to let go ten other runners. Passing slower runners, especially from the bigger 10 km crowd, which started 1.1 km in front of us at the same time, was no big problem. The first two laps I clocked at around 10 min each, and still felt good, or even better than at the start. So I kept on going that speed until the end. After the 8th lap I reognized one of the runners who I had to let go at the start, and accelerated as much as I could, overtaking him and finishing 10th overall in 1:23:44 h (all results). I was really baffled having reached such a time.

At the finish I met Friedemann and Christian (who took the photo below) with his girlfriend, talked a while and had some ice cream before I went to my grandparents for the afternoon.

All in all, it was a happy Sunday which I will keep in memory for a while. :)
